The image epitome has been proposed recently as an efficient representation of images and video sequences. It is concise, in the sense that it eliminates much redundancy of the original image. It also remains informative, with the ability to capture both the color information and certain spatial patterns. Being a condensed version of the image, the epitome exhibits potentials in many applications, such as image compression, image retrieval, texture transfer and etc. And we believe that it is also beneficial to image segmentation, motion estimation and super-resolution.
